CAUGHT BY BELTING.
MILLHAND'Si MISFORTUNE. SERIOUS INJURIES SUSTAINED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] BLENHEIM, Saturday. A serious accident happened at Carr's mill, Tinline Vallev, yesterday. A millhand named James Horwood was replacing, the belt on a large pulley and was turning the pulley by hand when the engine unaccountably started, and the unfortunate man was whirled round the shafting. He fell to the floor unconscious with both legs broken and severe abrasions to his head and body,, Horwood is 28 years of age, and a native of Australia. FOOT SEVERELY CRUSHED. ACCIDENT ON A LAUNCH. [by telegraph.—press association.] WHANGAREI. Sunday. When trying out a new launch yesterday, Mr. A. S. Bevin, a well-known resident of Whangarei, had his foot severely injured. He failed to notice that tho under section of the driving shaft wan unprotected. A lace od. his right boot was caught and the foot drawn into the, belting. It was badly crushed and lacerated. Mr. Bevin was taken to hospital, where it was found necessary to amputate three toes and part of the foot.
