DROWNED IN RIVER.
FATE OF GIRL BATHER. COMMENT BY THE CORONER. NEED FOR CAUTION URGED. [EX lELEGEAPH. OWN CO ERESrONDENT. ] OTOROHANGA. Sunday. A drowning accident occurred in the Waipa River at Otorohanga yesterday afternoon, the victim being Grace Annie Meredith, aged 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. D Meredith, of Lake Road, Ohaupo. The girl had been bathing with some companions, who left her with other bathers. Oa their returning she had disappeared. The river at this point is very dangerous for anyone who is not a strong swimmer. A search was immediately made for the body, several bathers diving unsuccessfully. The body was recovered at 7.30 p.m. An inquest was held to-day before Mr. R. M. Somerville, coroner, and a verdict of accidental death with no blame attach able to anyone was returned. The coroner drew attention to the number of fatal accidents in rivers in the King Country owing to snags in dangerous holes and urged parents to exercise caution with their children,
