DONATION TO ART.
SIR H. BEAUCHAMP'S GIFT. SUM CF £6250 REALISED. [BY TELEG.TUPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WELLINGTON, Sunday. The National Gallery fund is to benefit by the sura of £6250 as a result of the gift by Sir Harold Beauchamp, of his former residence in Fitzherbert Terrace. When the movement for enlarging the gallery of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts was mooted, the idea was put forward that the gallery should be a Dominion or national art gallery, in the sense that the museum in Wellington is a Dominion museum. The academy resolved to dispose of its gallery in Whitmore Street and put the proceeds into the National Gallery fund. Sir Harold Beauchamp gave his former residence andjand for realisation for the fund, and the property has now been disposed of for £6250 to the Railway Department. The department has acquired the property for the purpose of converting the hour's into a hostel for cadets who come from different parts of the Dominion at the commencement of their career for training.
