SHORTAGE OF WATER.
PORTIONS OF WELLINGTON. MANGAHAO DAMS LOW. After several weeks dry weather a water shortage is being felt m parts of the Wellington district. Some three weeks ago the Mangahao power station dams were so low that the Evans Bay power station had to be called into commission to supply tho electrical power for Wellington and the Hutt Valley. The shortage of water, however, lasted only a week. Since then Mangahao, which caught some passing showers, collected sufficient water in the dams to keep the wheels whirring for a time at least; but absolute security of" supply at this time of the year, it is stated, will not be ensured until tne new dam gives a greater measure of conserved water. Aft the bays people dependent on tanks are already carrying water. Those on reservoir supply at Eastbourne arid Day's Bay have been warned to desist From using water for their gardens, and have been requested to be conservative in the domestic use of water. Tile Karon dam, which is fed from Orongorongo, is practically full, however, f and a good normal pressure was being j maintained throughout the city.
