THE WAR IN CHINA.
ADVANCE OF CANTONESE. MOVE TOWARD SHANGHAI. A. and N.Z. PEKING, Dec. 13. There have been many rumours that the Cantonese, after occupying virtually the whole of the Fukien Province, are advancing on Hangchow and Chekiang, which have declared their independence from Marshal Sun Chuan-fang. It is now reported that Hangchow has fallen to the Cantonese. The Shanghai-Hangchow railway is cut at Linping, 12 miles north-east of Hangchow, presumably by Chekiang soldiers, although another report states that Sun Chuan-fang's troops cut the line near Sungkiang, over 20 milea southwest of Shanghai, and are making preparations for a stand there against the Cantonese advance on Shanghai.
