CROSSING FATALITY.
CAR STRUCK BY TRAIN. DRIVER DIES IN HOSPITAL. MOTOR THROWN INTO HEDGE. [BY EEtEGHAPH.—TRESS ASSOCIATION.] WAIMATE. Thursday. A distressing . level crossing collision occurred on the main road at Studholme this morning, when the 8.20 a.m. train from Waimate to Studholme struck a car driven by Sir. H. -J. Pickering, a commercial traveller representing Ross and Glendining, Ltd., Dtmedin. The car was struck about the driver's seat and was thrown into a badge. The driver was thrown out and sustained serious injuries. Medical aid and the ambulance arrived from Waimate and the injured man was conveyed to the Waimate Hospital where he expired later in the morning. Mr. Pickering„ who was the only occupant of the car, was believed to- be a resident of Tin tar u. He leaves a wife and family. MISHAP AT FRAHKTON. AUCKLAND EXPRESS DELAYED. [ES TELEGRAPH. —OWN coheuspond:ENT. ] HAMILTON, Thursday. ■A collision occurred shortly after 4 o'clock this morning at the Killarney Eoad level crossing, Frankton,, when a five-seater car, owned and driven by Mr. J. 'Holden, of Naylor Street, Hamilton East, ira.n into the engine of the Wellington to Auckland express. Mr. Holden, who was netting out to drive to Raglan, was accompanied by one passenger. Ho failed to notice tho approaching train -until too lata to avoid'a collision. The express was delayed for nine minates while tho extent of tho damage was ascertained. Neither of the occupants of tho car was hrnty but tile front portion of tbo vehicle was damaged,,on® wheel being completely shattered.
