WAITEMATA COUNTY.
PROGRESS OF ROAD WORK. INCREASE IN NEW BUILDING. The Waitemata County Council met yesterday, the chairman, Mr. G, O'Halloran, presiding. The engineer reported that grading was in full swing and most <~f the main roads were in good gprder for summer traffic. The outstanding feature of the month's operations was the completion of the concrete paving of the main highway between Auckland and Henderson. The graders were busy in Mairetahi, Kumeu, Waipareira and Waikumete Ridings, and new metalling was being pushed along as much as possible in the three last-mentioned ridings. Assistance in the reconstruction of Crow's Bridge, Henderson, was refused by the Public Works Department, which stated in a letter that all moneys allocated for the Auckland district for the present financial year had been absorbed in more urgent works. It was decided to renew the application next year. The Auckland Local Bodies' Association wrote stating that it was proposed to establish a transport committee in the No. 1 district pending the formation of a transport board. It was decided to reply expressing sympathy with the movement. The engineer was instructed to prepare an estimate of the cost of a concrete road from the New Lynn boundary to the Titirangi post office for the' information of the Titirangi Ratenayers' Association An increase in building throughout the county was reported "by the county engineer. If was stated ithat 14 permits had been issued during November to the total value of £4198. It was decided to donate £5 to the Dobson mine disaster relief fund.
