FIRE ON A STEAMER.
SOME CARGO JETTISONED. Flames fought for hours. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 9.35 p.m.) ADELAIDE. Oct. 13. The British India Steam Navigation Company's steamer Janus, from Calcutta to Adelaide, arrived to-day. When she was 60 miles west, of Neptune Island, off the western side of the entrance to Spencer Gulf, in a raging gale, a fire broke out. beneath the shelter deck. It was found that some bales of kapok and some corn sacks in No. 3 hatch were alight. After seven hours' hard fight the fire was subdued but it was necessary to Jettison many torn of damaged cargo*
