BIRKDALE SCHOOL BAZAAR.
HELPING ENGLISH COUSINS. A successful bazaar and exhibition of school work was held in the Birkdale School 011 Saturday, when, in spite of the inclemency of tho weather, there was a fair attendance of the local residents. Mr. .T. 31. Shepherd, chairman of the school committee, officially opened the bazaar. He emphasised the fact that a very large proportion of the goods on sale had been made by the children of the school, and complimented the teachers and scholars on the very fine display of work of all descriptions on view. The work on exhibition he considered very creditable indeed, especially as there were no children in the school above standard IV. Much interest was taken in the writing, printing, drawing, mapping, plasticine and cardboard modelling, and nature study experimental work. The proceeds of tho bazaar are to be forwarded as a Christmas offering to Dr. Barnardo's Homo for Crippled and Orphan Children, situated at Birkdale, England. This will still further cement the union between the two Birkdales established some years ago by inter-school correspondence.
