HIGHWAYS BOARD SUBSIDIES. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT,] TAURANGA. Monday, The report of tho engineer submitted to the last meeting of tho Tauranga County Council stated that a good deal of work had been done near McLaren's Falls, and that, proposals had been submitted to tho Main Highways Board for further work toward Tuapiro Bridge. This would bo carried out as soon as approved. Tho recent heavy rains had caused a large slip in a railway cutting which had carried away a portion of tho road. This length of tho road was closed. Tho council considered in committee the question of damage to tho TaurangaKatikati Road, and referred tho matter to a committee, with power to act. Mr. A. B. Morton said certain subsidies claimed from tho Main Highways Board had not been paid in full to the council. It was decided to jipply to the board for tho moneys, alsfi to make representations on the subject to tho at ting-chairman of the board when he visits the district. Mr. J. Danagh gavo notice of motion to tho effect that, steps be taken by tho council to raise a supplementary loan of 10 per cent, for the completion of metalling on the Oropi Road.
