AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE. DAY OF QUIET BUSINESS. There was a considerable in the amount of business transacted on the Auckland sharemarket yesterday, although the tone of tho market was well maintained. In Government securities War Loans were sought at Tuesday's rates. In Inscribed Stock there were sellers of the 1938 issue at £96 15s, a drop of 2s 6d on tho previous day's figure, with no buyers after the first call, when £96 10s was offered. In banks New Zealands wp'ro wanted at 61s 9d, a drop of 3d, while sellers were higher by the samo amount at 62s 9d. Unions of Australia had demand at £ls 2s 6d, no sellers quoting. .Tn insurance Nationals sold at 80s, holders closing at that figure, buyers 79s 6d. Thero were two sales of New Zealands at 38s 6d, equal to tho previous day's transaction, late buyers 38s 3d, sellers 395. In gas Aucklands had salo at 23s 6d, with a late demand at 23s 4d, holders 23s 9d. Most miscellaneous lines were sought at about late rates, but no ebusiness resulted. Sellers of Taranaki Oil opened at 6s 9d, at which price sales were made on Tuesday. The market closed at 6s 3rl and 5s 3cL In mining Alburnias changed hands at 4s sd. Thero were sales of New Waiotahis, contributing, at 2s, 2s Id and 2s 2d. Ohinc.muri again sold at 6s 6d. Two sales of Mount. Lyell were made at 28s.

The following sales took place: — National Insurance, 80s; New Zealand Insurance, 38s 6d, two sales; Auckland Gas, 23s 6d; Alburnia, 4s sd; New Waiotahi, contributing, 2s, 2s Id, 2s 2d; Ohinemuri, 6s 6d; Mount Lyell, 28s, two sales.
