POLICE COURT NEWS.
A MIDNIGHT STREET FIGHT. ONE OF THE PARTIES FINED. A sequel to a fight in Dominion Road at midnight on Tuesday was the appearance in the Police Court yesterday of Frank Leopold Townscnd, aged 23, and Bertram Evans, aged 20, charged with fighting. Townscnd admitted the offence and Evans pleaded not guilty. A constable said ho saw the accused with their coats oIT fighting "for all they were worth." Evans said he was one of tho proprietors of a dance hall and Townsend with others came in and commenced to create a disturbance. Ho put them out, and when outside Townsend commenced to attack him. Ho struck back in selfdefence. Questioned by the senior sergeant, witness said lie did not take his coat off; it was pulled off. , Townsend said Evans offered to come out and fitcht him. Evans: Townsend is a nnisanco around the place. I told the police about him once before. Townsend was fined £l, while the charge against Evans was dismissed. CHARGE OF VAGRANCY. " Ho came to the polieo station last evening, and said ho had no home, no food, and no clothing," said Senior-De-tective Hammond, when William Henry Colo was charged with vagrancy. Ho was very shaky and asked to be locked up for tiie night, added the detective. Accused said he had work to go to. The magistrate dismissed tho charge on condition that accused went to work. A SERIOUS CHARGE. A charge of indecent assault an a male was preferred against Joseph Patrick O'Neill, aged 29. He was remanded until October 14. bail being allowed ill two sureties of £250 each.
