PENALTIES FOR BREACHES.
DRIVERS FINED IN COURT.'
A number of drivers of motor vehicles were prosecuted in the Polic Court yesterday lor breaches of tlie traffic by-luws.
In the case of Ronald 11. Brownlee, charged with dangerous driving, it was stated that lie approached a corner at 25 miles ail hour, and in on attempt to avoid some shingle took a wide turning and crashed into a motor-lorry. "I suppose the lorry got the worst of it," commented the magistrate, Mr. Hunt. Mr. Allan Moody, for defendant: Oh. no. My client received serious injuries: The Magistrate: He has been punished enough. Convicted and ordered to pay costs. For dangerous driving, H. Howie, CI. Jackson and A. R. Hughes were each fined £2 with costs. W. Sinclair was convicted and ordered to pay costs, while a charge against Minnio Grevatt was dismissed. For negligently driving a motor-car, Josiah F. Tutchen was fined £5, and his licence was endorsed. It wns stated defendant did not use proper care when approaching a stationary tramcar. A fine of £2 with costs was imposed on Ada B. Hinson for passing a stationary tmmcar. For using a motor-car without the endorsement of a certificate, George Holland was fined 10s with costs. He was fined a similar amount for failing to have his vehicle properly lighted. A line of £2 with costs was imposed on R. G. M. Fear for speeding over Grafton Bridge. Arthur Barrow, James Leonard, Ernest S. Garrett and Cyril Worrall were each fined £2 with costs for speeding. Stated to have gone down Queen Street in his car at from 30' to 35 miles on hour, R. Woodside was fined £5 with costs. John R. Morgan was fined £3 with costs, and George Prosser £1 with costs, for speeding. A. J. Richards, E. J. Clark, W. Henderson and G. P. Finluy were each fined 10s with costs for cutting corners. The following were fined 10s with costs for leaving their cars unattended:—W. G. Simpson, G. R. Allen, I. H. Skellon, B. L, Dignan, J. F. Wilson, Ivan Chamberlain, T. E. Me.Guire, John W. Brain, Lionel Stingo, C. Webb, A. F. Knight, John C. Law ford and Maurice Kalman. For failing to obey u traffic signal, Thomas Cubitt was finer! £1 with costs. For •failing to have their vehicles sufficiently lighted the following wore each fined 10s with costs:—Harry E. Hay, John B. Hibbcrt, William Russell, Arthur S. Turner, Francis Whitman, John Banke and J. Wooller. A fine of 10s with costs was imposed on Robert Draper for riding a bicycle on ti footpath. Stopping within the arc;* of a safety zone cost Robert Saunders 10s with costs. For failing to notify a change of ownership Henry Saunders was fined £1 with costs. > George A. Jordan was fined £1 with costs for not having a driver's licence, while Edward Fnithful was fined 10s with costs for failing to produce a licence. For failing to hold out his arm, Sidney Whitehouse was fined 10s with costs.
