SPECIAL COURSE TO BE HELD r
Ihe Auckland Education Board met yesterday, the chairman, Mr. A. Burns, presiding.
The Education Department notified that special courses of instruction for secondary school teachers in district high schools would be held in Auckland during the. last week of the summer holidays and the first week of the 1927 school year. The board approved of the course and the senior and advisory inspectors were instructed to make the necessary arrangements. Replying to the request to grant a lodging allowance to certain probationers to allow them to attend University classes, the department stated that in view of the. additional expense no allowance could be made. The department notified that the Government was considering the question of obtaining tenders for the supply of pianos to schools and other Government- institutions and that it would probably be to the advantage of schools if they postponed purchase until the prices obtained by the Government were ascertained. The approval of the board was given to a recommendation -from the Auckland City Schools Committee that school banks should be extended to children somewhat younger than those in standard 11. Permission was granted the Whitiora School, Hamilton, to establish a bank in accordance with the scheme of the Auckland Savings Bank'. Notification was received from the department that it had approved of a scheme to provide school song liooks to the standard V. and VI. pupils in the Dominion schools.
