OBITUARY.

MR. ISAAC WARD. Mr. Isaac. Ward, whose death occurred in Auckland on Sunday, at the, age of 79 years, was a.pioneer of the Ness Valley district, Clevedon. He took up • land in the valley about 50 years ago, and Bbout 15 years ago transferred to a small farm at Maraetai, Clevedon. During the past seven years, since the death of his wife, he had lived in" retirement in .Auckland. The interment took place at Clevedon yesterday. Mr. Ward leaves two sons and four daughters. There are 23 grandchildren and orte.great-grandchild. MR. C. A. WEBSTER. The recent death of Mr. Charles Abraham Webster removes an old and respected resident of Milford, Takapuna. Mr. Webster, who had Attained the age of 86, had an adventurous early life. He engaged in seafaring and was shipwrecked on two occasions. After one disaster he and others rowed in a ship's boat 6QO miles down the coast of Chiles suffering great privations until they were rescued. Oti another occasion ho lost his all in a shipwreck off Flamborough Head, on the English coast. Mr. Webster subsequently entered the service of the Great Northern • Railway Company. He left Britain for New Zealand in 1874 and in 1878 entered the Now Zealand railway service. He served in the Railways Department until November, 1903, when he retired on superannuation. Mr. Webster was a foundation member of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, which was formed in 1886. lie spent the last- few years of his life at his daughter's, residence at Brentwood Avenue, Mount Edeu. llis wife predeceased him four years ago. An adult family of five sons and two daughters survive. MRS. SARAH ANN PLUMMER The late Mrs. S. A. Plummer, who died on Monday last, was one of Auckland's oldest colonists. Born in Auckland in 1846, she spent the whole of her life, with the exception of a year visiting America and Europe, in her native land. A portion of her childhood was lived in Pukekohe. where her father, the late Mr. Joshua Robinson, was engaged in farming. During (he Maori War the family had on two occasions to leave the homestead and flee to Auckland to escape from the danger of hostile bands of natives who were marching on the settlement. In 1867 she married Mr. George Plnmmfr and settled with him at Port Albert, where resided till 1882, when they moved to Auckland. As the family grew up Mrs. Plummer devoted her spare time to social and philanthropic work, being ever ready to assist the sick and, needy. For many years she took a leading part in the activities of tho W.C.T.U. She is survived by all her children, two sons and five daughters, a number of grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her husband predeceased her some five years ago. MR. T. W. YOUNG. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. Mr. Thomas White Young, head of the firm of Messrs. T. and W. Young, general merchants, of Wellington, and a pioneer resident of this city, died at his residence yesterday morning, aged 95 years. Mr. Young emigrated from Scotland in 1861. He attended his business, as. usual on Tuesday and was in the act of rising yesterday morning to go -to business when he collapsed. He leaves four sons and one , daughter.
