THE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS PROGRESS OF COMPETITION. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Reuter. LONDON, Aug. 27. In the English county cricket, championships Essex, in their first innings against Notts, made 354 runs (Freeman 133, Douglas 103). Staples took four wickets for 90. In their' second innings they made 151. Flint took three wickets for four. Notts, in their first inning 3, made 595 runs for four wickets and declared (G.. Gunn 85, Wliysall 209, Carr 53, Payton, not out, 87, Lilley, not out, 86). Notts won by an innings and 90 runs.

Sussex, in' their first innings against Yorkshire, made 148 runs. Waddington took siix wickets for 49. In their second innings Sussex made 217 (Tate 67). Robinson took four wickets for 45. Yorkshire, in their first innings, scored 230 runs (Sutdiffe 94, Kilner 62). In their second innings thoy made 139 for iwo wickets (Sutcliffe, not oat, 65). Yorkshire won by eight wickets. For Middlesex against Gloucester Haig scored 100, not out, Allen took seven wickets for 30 and Powell eight for 72. Middlesex won.

Playing for Surrey against Leicester Ducat made 235 runs. Shepherd in the first innings scored 321, and in the second 101, not out. Holmes took five wickets for siß and Fender six for 67. For Leicester Geary made 100 runs and Siawell iicorad 105. Surrey won. Batiting for Worcester against Hampshire, Foster, in the first innings, scored 141 runs. In the second innings he made 106, Sind Jewell made 125. Root took eight wickets for 46. For Hampshire Bowell made 132 runs and Mead, not out, 177. The match was drawn. Playing for Lancashire against Northants ]S. I'yldesiey made 127 runs. Sibbles took five wickets for 39 and Mac Donald took seven for 113. Lancashire won. For Leveson-Gower's team against Glamorgan, "Wyatt, in the first innings, took five wickets for 56, and in the second five for 85. The match was drawn
