THE AUCKLAND CLUB. FINAL OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP. VICTORY FOR R. D. WRIGHT. The final of the championship of the Auckland Golf Club was played at Middlemore on Saturday, R. D. Wright defeating W. S. Ralph, 9 up and 7. "Wright is the holder of the provincial championship. In _ spite of very unfavourable weather conditions, the play was of a high order. Heavy rain fell for a time during the morning round, and a strong wind swept the links in the afternoon. Nevertheless, the winner gave a very fine exhibition, his driving being a feature. His lee-shots were placed with great accuracy, and he seldom strayed off the fairways. Ralph played well, but went out for the afternoon round with practically a hopeless task before him, Wright being 4 up. Wright started the match steadily and was one up at the turn, taking 39 to his opponent's 40. Tn the run homo Writtht increased his lend to 4 up, his card reading 7G. and that of Ralph 80. In the afternoon the first two holes were halved in 4. At the third Wright aank a long putt for a 4, making him 5 up. He was now playing superb golf and took the fourth hole with a good 4. Ralph missed a' short putt for a half at the fifth and Wright was in the happy position of being 7 up." The sixth was halved in 5, and Wright won the seventh with a 3. The eighth was halved in 4. Ralph won' the ninth with a G, Wright's third striking the face of a bunker and landing him in difficulty. The hole cost him 7, and spoilt his' card, which up to then had averaged fours. Wright won the tenth in 4, making him eight up again. The match ended at the eleventh. Ralph sliced his second shot into the river. Wright's second landed close alongside the pin, and his opponent gave him the hole and the match. Mr. A. E. M, Rhind acted as referee. THE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. The final of the junior championship was also played, C. N. Jacobsen defeating H. P. R. Foster, 9 and 8. Jacobsen played good golf, going round in 85 and 84. Foster, who was five down at the end of the first round, was unable to hold him. The C grade championship reached the semi-final stage, the results of matches being as follow:—F. D. .Mill beat S. L. Ludbraok at the 19th; J. M. Stokes beat A. Kinder, 5 and 4; 11. C. Bull beat F. G. Austin, 6 and 4; ,1. A. Carr beat H. W. Wilson, 5 and 4. The Franklin Golf Association's championship for lady players was decided on the Waiuku links to-day. Three rounds of the course were played, a total of 27 holes, and, despite rather unfavourable weather, good golf was witnessed. Some 30 players took part. Mrs. Forbes, of. Waiuku,, won the championship, with a gross score of 152 for the 27 .-soles. The next' best cards' were:—Mrs. Christianson, Waiku, 1G0; Miss Barriball, Waiuku, 160: Miss Wily, Pukekohe, 162, Miss Glynes, Waiuku. 163: Miss Aldred, Waiuku. 166: Miss Muir. Waiuku. 168: Miss Neil, Waiuku, 170; Mrs. Motion, Pukekohe, 171. • . The teams' match was won by the Waifiku Club, the cards counting for this being those returned by Mesdames Forbes and Christianson and Misses Barriball and Glynes. For the medal handicap match over the first two rounds, 18 holes. Miss Aldred returned the winning, card; 74 net, while Miss Glynes won the medal match over the last two rounds, with a net. score of 72. During the week Mrs. Forbes won the Waiuku Club's senior championship for ladies, Mrs'. Ohlson being the runner up. Miss Muir won the junior championship, with Miss Arkle. in second place.
