POWER IN WHANGAREI.
EXTENSION OF RETICULATION
THREE SOURCES OF SUPPLY.
[by telegraph.—OWN correspondent. ]
WHANGAREI, Wednesday,
A committee of the Whangarei Borough Council has successfully .negotiated with the Wilsons Portland Cement Company in regard to the provision of. a transmission line:-direct to Whangarei from Maungatapere, which is half-way between Portland and the power works at the Wairua Falls. The license held by the council empowered it to reticulate beyond the borough boundary as far as Maunu church, but the company has now agreed that the council may reticulate the area between Maunu church arid Maungatapere, obtaining.current from the proposed main line. -
The provision of the new line will prac-* tically eliminate risks, of breakdown to the supply to Whangarei, as the borough" will be having three - separate mains bringing electricity to the power station. The company has also~given the council a guarantee, of' an increased supply of current for a term of 6£, years, and to an extent that practically assures the council, >f being able to guarantee to fill any requirements for power or light current that may be made during that period.
