ATHLETICS IN AUSTRALIA.

BRISBANE CHAMPIONSHIPS VICTORIANS WIN ON POINTS. DAY OF RECORD BREAKING. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. BRISBANE. Aug.'2l. The Victorian competitors were the record-breakers at the 15th biennial Australian and New Zealand track and field games championship meeting in Brisbane. There were 3000 spectators. The weather conditions were again ideal and the track was good. It was certainly a day out. for the Victorians. They annexed the 440 yds. hurdles, the 880 yds. championship, the three miles run and the high jump, and equalled New South Wales' championship total for the championship. Then Australian and New Zealand records were broken wholesale. Probably the most magnificent effort of the day was the epic run of Hyde in the three miles event. Mason's feat in establishing a new Australian and New Zealand record for the high jump was tho result of brilliant jumping. Qrelian's race in the 220 yds. was commendable. He worthily sustained his reputation. Owing to an injured leg Bums (New South Wales,) could not compete. T}ie championship was won; by Victoria with eight firsts, including one .point for the decathlon. The championship points are: — , / First. Second. Third.
