DOMINION ATHLETES.

SUTHERLAND TO RETURN; ROSE ALSO ■ ON THE WAY. A. and LONDON. Aug. SO. A New Zealander, E. G. Sutherland, who has been living in South Africa, and is now in Scotland, has informed Mr. McHolm that he will' shortly return to Wellington and will compete in athletic events. Mr. McHolm considers Sutherland to be the best all-round athlete New Zealand has produced. .. . Randolph Rose has recovered and has arrived in London from - Oslo. With Mr. McHolm he will .leave for America tomorrow.- He will embark at San Fran-' cisco on the. Tahiti on September 8.

Mr." McHolm considers Rose had the worst of luck when influenza interfered with him as he was working up to litis best form. Ho had been, doing the equivalent of a mile in 4.20 in England. He improved in Paris and was at his bdst at Rotterdam. There he was leading the Belgian champion in the 5000 metres ra,ce and had. left the field far behind when he suddenly collapsed at half way, though he had not felt ill beforehand. .

After that it was a matter of fulfilling his engagement# as far as possible, but he could not run more than once a weak. He really needed a long rest. Rose is very disappointed as everything had been practically arranged for him to meet Nurmi at Abo, Finland, on August 28. He proposes to spend next season in New Zealand doing very light work and after that he will go. in for very intense training for the Olympic Games.
