Mrs. A. Kinder has returned to town from a visit to Port Waikato. Miss Osborne left by the Maheno on Friday on her return to Sydney. Miss Ewart, of |)unedin, is visiting Auckland and is staying at Arundel. .Miss Rutherford, of North Canterbury, is the guest of Mrs. W. B. Lloyd, Otahuhu. Mrs. J. F. Frater, who has been visiting Mjrs. E. H. Hammond, Hamilton, has returned home. Miss P. Robertson, of Leeston, Canterbury, is staying with her aunt, Mrs. E. H. Reed, Grafton Road. Miss F. Rathbone left on Friday by motor for New Plymouth and Hawera. Later she will go on to Napier and Wellington. Mrs. T. Savage, with Miss M. Savage, left 011 Friday for Gisborne to attend the wedding of her son, Mr. Victor Savage, and Miss F. Barker, which takes place on Wednesday. She was accompanied by Miss Cooper, Miss J. Duthie and Mr. H. Henderson. The shawl which was presented by Her Majesty the Queen to the New Zealand and South Seas International Exhibition, and which was an object of considerable interest, when displayed in the women's section, has been formally presented to Ross "Home, which will bo its permanent, abiding-place, says an Otago exchange. A happy little function took place at the Campbell Free Kindergarten, Freeman's Bay, on Thursday morning, when a welcome was extended to Mrs. SJidney Nathan, the president of the committee of the Campbell Kindergarten, who has just returned from her trip abroad. Mrs. Nathan has endeared herself to the children by her kindly and generous acts and by her untiring interest m the. kindergarten. The children gave her a most sincere and enthusiastic welcome. Special songs were given, and on "behalf of the school, four tinv maidens presented lior with charming, bouquets of violets, primroses, sweetpeas and daffodils. The honoured guest brought as a gift to the children a plentiful supply of sweetis.

During the "Kindness to, Animals" Week, held in England early in May, a London firm, well known for its enterprise in selling "vegetarian" furs, organised a parade of mannequins at which all the costumes, hats, shoes and gloves worn wore of artificial material.
