AUCKLAND ACCIDENTS.

MAN FALLS FROM DRAY. DEATH FOLLOWS INJURY. A fractured spine sustained by Mr. Thomas Capel, aged 50,. of 24,-Selwyn Street, Onehunga, as a result of being thrown from a dray on Friday, resulted in his death at the Auckland Hospital on Saturday morning. ,• Mr. Capel, who was a married man, was driving the dray -when the. horse shied at a steam roller. Mr. Capel fell and a, wheel passed over his body. YOUTH SHOT IN THE EYE. GUN ACCIDENTALLY DISCHARGED. The accidental discharge of a gun resulted in a painful wound to the left eye being sustained by -a youth, George Arthur Warren, of 32, Huntingtree Avenue, Mount Albert, on Saturday afternoon. He left his • home on Saturday afternoon to go out shooting, and it appears that a cartridge became jammed in the breech of his shotgun. While ha wa.s looking down the barrel the cartridge exploded . and he received the charge at close range. He was immediately taken to the hospital. i An X-ray examination was performed yesterday morning, but tha full extent of the wound has not yet been determined. MISCELLANEOUS CASE. SEVERE SCALDS SUSTAINED. . While working at the tea kiosk at Ellerslie racecourse on Saturday Mrs. Florence Tallentire, of College Hill, Ponsonby, upset a can of boiling water over her right foot, causing severe scalds. She was removed to the . hospital by . the St. John Ambulance and her condition last evening was reported to be satisfactory. A fall down a flight of steps on to concrete at the bottom resulted in Mr. Ernest Lowther, of 88, Grey Street, aged 40 years, receiving injuries to his head and j left eye. His condition is not sejious. !
