THE FARMER'S HARD LOT.

SiLI,—l 1 ,—I heartily agree with most of what "Tiller of the (Soil" says, especially about giving the man on the land cheaper fertilisers, better roads arid some of the conveniences the city folk look upon as a right. Well, who'is to give them, or who is likely to? Why" do not die farmers enjoy these privileges ? Is it not a , fact: that when so much borrowed money is being spent in the towns on such things as museums and civic squares and such like (which are surely of secondary importance in a young producing country) that the farmer finds it more difficult than oyer to raise money* for renewing mortgages and for necessary improvements, and so cannot bring about the necessary increase in production upon the progress of which the growth of both town and country depends ? Would not some of the money spent so lavishly in the cities bring better results to the whole country if it was, used in roading and improving the farming districts and so making the lob of the farmer more satisfactory? If the farmers. wait until they are given what are. really their rights, and upon which the progress ■ ,oi the country depends especially so far as the majority- of town people are concerned, they will wait a long time. ; The only way is to unite and organise more than ever, demand their rights and agitato till they get them. '-'Though your rulers may "neglect you, Be ye sober in your strength!; And they must and shall respect you, And the light shall dawn at length. 5 ' \r' -I,' Unity.
