GARDEN SEEDS

Sir, —It has to me been a source of amazement that New Zealand gardeners should be dependent 011 imports for seeds. Possibly others besides myself have grown their own to some extent* and have found home-grown infinitely better than the imported. You mention that the business of seeil-growing requires expert knowledge, and is not to be acquired in a day. True, on a commercial scale, the most perfect method would produce best results, but. if my small essay, entirely uninstructed, has proved to yield such ' ( v large measure of vitality, it " would seem that the same care only needs extending in operation to', retain in New Zealand the large sum now being sent abroad. There is, allied, the other kindred source of income for New Zealand in place of exports, viz., dried culinary herbs. T.D.
