FIVE-MILES STEEPLECHASE. ; EASY WIN FOR COOPER. The Auckland Amateur Athletic Club held its ninth series of winter competitions at the Domain on Saturday afternoon. The most important of the five events was a five-miles" steeplechase, which was won by Cooper, a newcomer to this. class of running. Results are as follow: Five-miles Steeplechase.—Cooper, 1605,. 1; Kells, scr.,, 2; Wilson, scr.,' 3. Cooper took the lead from Scown at the end of the second lap and drew away from the field to will by 15 yards from Kells. who' had run a fine race. Wilson, who also ran well, was five yards further back. Time, 19m Is. 75yds. Handicap.—R. Willey, sydß., 1; D. P. Deere, llyds.. 2; D. M. Gordon, lyd., 3. Won by inches. Time, 7 4-ss.
