KING'S-MOUNT ALBERT DRAW AUCKLAND GRAMMAR IN LEAD. The secondary school championship was decided at Middlemore on Saturday, when Mount Albert Grammar and King's College played a drawn game, which was packed with exciting incidents. The standard of play was not exceptionally high, but there wore bright' back movements in plenty. As a result of the game the championship goes to Auckland Grammar School. This team was level with King's College, both having euflered two defeats, but the draw with Mount Albert puts King's one point behind its old rivals. in the championship table. After some scrambling play in midfield Mount Albert was penalised and KerrTaylor failed in an attempt at goal. Both packs were playing up close and there was very little back play until McChystal opened it up. Wild passing saw the movement break down Mount Albert cleared to midfield. On several occasions' Mount Albert lost chance,3 through its inside backs kicking too hard. The quarter was very even and ended without either side having scored. Early in the second quarter King's showed up in a back rush, but Parkinson dropped his pass and shortly after a knock-on lost Boyd a score. King's then secured from a scrum and McCrystal rushed through the opposition to score. Kerr-Taylor could not improve the try. « Then the King.'s captain made another fine breakaway, but Meredith saved. King's were securing from scrum and line-out. but the backs could not put the finishing touches on the movements that McCrystal initiated. Kicking by ARpden and Weir helped Mount Albert to attack and Wilson made a fine opening, only to see Meredith pushed out. Half-time came with King's leading by * 3 points to 0. The second half opened sensationally. Walton made a brilliant dash, beating Aspden, but the Mount- Albert fullback just managed to touch his ankle and-he lost his balance. Then McCrystal worked the blind side from a' scrum and sent Miliken and Boyd away. The former gave Boyd a clean run. in, but. Mcßride held him up. However. Larmti: was handy and he scored i a try. which in the circumstances must be considered lucky. McCrystal's kick failed and King's led by 0 points to 0. Mount Albert then took the offensive, Wilson making a good dash, but long line-kicking by Kerr-Taylor saved. , Mount Albert's pliy had improved considerably and after Mori timer was held up on the line. Weir and Wilson made a good combined dash,' the ball going out at the corner as th.e quarter ended.

In defeating the Auckland Grammar School by '22 points to 6 yesterday the New Plymouth, Boys' i High School for the first time'won "a match against the Northerners on their own ground. Seven matches have now being played between the two schools and though the High School has won four, the three previous victories were won on Eden Park. Auckland Grammar yesterday, however, went down wit hcolours flying. The game was "bright and interesting. Grammar got a fair share of the ball from the scrums but they wer not aggressive on attack and their backs suffered by comparison with their opponents. . whose fine linekicking and speedy und :'clever passing rushes were a feature of their, play. Superb tackling Was the visitors' most commendable asset. 'Grammar was ' the first to ficore. Edwards breaking into the High School twenty-five, where Wattn worked the blind side nicely and Cashmore dashed across. Almost immediately equalised the scores with a passing try. Fletcher put his side ahead before halftime. Watson, the. speedy High School winger, got n, fine try at the corner after all backs had handled and Fletcher converted. Grammar improved their score just on time,, when Bell made _ a splendid run from half-wav to near the line, where he, passed to Garlick, who completed a brilliant effort.
