POLLARD CUP PLAY.

SATURDAY'S THREE GAMES. MARIST HEAD THE LIST. Only three matches were played in the Pollard-Cup Bug by competition on Saturday. Representative matches, injuries and sickness depleted the ranks of the Contesting teams and the standard of play sutterect. NORTH SHORE. The best match of the series was played by the B section teams, Manukau and North Snore, which finished with honours even. The contest would have been much improved had the teams observed the offside Vule more, as there were frequent stoppages for this infringement and only one try was scored as against three penalty goals. .The first half ended with Manukau leading by a penalty goal kicked by Lipscombe, although North Shore "had been slightly more aggressive., Three more points went to Manukau by similar means shortly after half-time, King scoring with a splendid' shot. Then Stokes retaliated for North Shore by kicking a penalty goal after the ball had just previously struck the crossbar. Having the advantage in the last quarter North Shore soundly tested, the Manukau defence and eventually O'Connor crossed in the corner to put the finishing touches to a preitty bout. With the score 6 all. both teams played at their best, but neither was ablo to take the lead before time was called.'

GRAMMAR' BEATS GRAFTON. A ragged 4 exhibition was given by Grammar ana Grafton, there being little combination shown and altogether too much kicking. Grammar played the better game, however, and scared three tries to its opponents' one. Grammar's first score was obtained'by teith, Badoley kicking the goal. The Grammar fullback : .was successful! with a penalty kick also, but soon afterwards Grafton was given the opportunity .to make amends and Nicklin contributed a penalty goal. Grammar showed better understanding in open play in the final quarter, but good handling was sadly lacking in. the methods of both seta", of backs. SUBURBS -EXTENDS MARIST. . The. Marist players found opponents worthy of their steel in Suburbs and were fully extended to win from the B section team by a; margin of six points. Both sides scored in the opening quarter. Gray kicking ii penalty goal for Suburbs and Butler responding- with-a try for Marist. ' A fast second quarter saw Marist leading; by 9 poitits'to ,3 at the interval as .the result of an itn con verted, try by Butler and a penalty goal by W. Cornthwaite. Marist continued, to hold Suburbs at bay in the second half.
