FARMERS' UNION AFFAIRS. HIGH SCHOOL MEMORIAL GATES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.,] • ' TAIHAPE. Saturday. The annual meeting of the Taihape br.anch of the , New Zealand Farmers' Union was heid this week. Mr. D. G. Gordon, wlio presided over a small attendance i stated that t\vo-years .ago; the branch had a membership , of 58,' but interest had waned and no annual meeting was held last year. The main question before the meeting was /whether.; or_ not the branch should carry on. If the branch was allowed to lapse then the farmers of the district would find it very difficult to get things done for them. After further discussion. it was decided:to carry oiv-and the following officers were elected:—Chairman, Mr. D. Scott: vicechairman, Mr. A. R. Fannin; committee, Messrs, H. A, Belk, J. Webb, H. O.'Gallaghan. D. G. Gordon. P. Munrb, J. Gilchrist and A. McColl. • The- Taihape District -High School Committee met this week. The headmaster,' Mr. W. E. Hird, reported that the names of 22 ex-scholars and three ex-teachers, who were killed in action during the Great War-, were to be inscribed,on the memorial gates, and it was agreed that these names should be sent' pn, to ; the engraver for his immediate attention, •so that the work of erecting the gates should not he. delayed. The copt is to be £53 of which £4B-lis was collected by Mr.J. Thurston during his term as headmaster. "

At a meeting of the Taihape Boxing Association, it' was announced that two five-guinea trophies, had been offered for competition among local boxers. One was from Mr. W. McLennan • and the ! other from Mr. P. E Wakeman. The offers were accepted and the donors^thanked for their generosity. ~V ■ ;
