CLOTHES AND EGO.

In looking W>und the women of one's acquaintance nowadays/ one finds that most of them are charmingly dressed, but some ,of them posses the "subtle faculty of looking different—distinguished, writes Lady Ossulston in the Daily Graphic. In trying >to analyse this orto is surprised to find that often 1 it has nothing to do with money, physical attraction, nor is it even exclusively pertaining to taste. > Many women havo an unerring taste in dress for colour for line, and for chic, • and yet they always look just like the fashion plates from which their frocks were | copied—charming and ladylike mannequins. These women rise their clothes to adorn, to embellish, and to proclaim them women of fashion. They use their clothes rather to frame j'ttfl express their personality and charm. Thev flips'? not merely by the mirror but by instinct; and one is so attracted by the "ego" which the clothes _ serve to frame that one notices only their general effect and that they are, altogether delightful. • To take in their detail one is obliged consciously and deliberately to switch one's centre of interest. Fortunate is the woman wlio possesses this " flair." Her clothes nsay be made by-the village dressmaker or in the West End. but they will ever stand out as being distinctive and lovely.
