"SOMEBODY."

Marjorie heard mother say to Aunty Sue:

"That awful doll! It's a perfect disgrace. But I simply daren t throw it away. 'Somebody' wouldn tbo able to sleep without it." Marjorie wondered who " Somebody was, and she asked Jennie, tho maid. Jennie said, " Somebody s the sweep s cousin," and laughed. " Was it Marie lionise you were talking to Aunty Sue about?" Marjorie asked her mother the next day. " Yes," said her mother, " and Aunty Sue says she'll buy you a beautiful big doll if you'll give her Marie Lcuise. She knows somebody who'll be glad of her. " That ' Somebody ' again," thought Marjorie. She picked up poor, battered Mario Louise and hid her in a corner of the garden behind the privet bushes. " Because," she said to Marie Lousie, who was looking surprised at being put in such a queer place, " Sue is going to give you to ' Somebody who is the sweep's coifcin, and I d never see jou again." Just then the sweep came up the garden Marjorie desperately, " and he s seen where I've hidden her." . "Oh, don't give her to your cousin, she cried, running up to him. Jennie, who had come out to find Marjorie, heard what she said. She laughed again and went inside and spoke to mother. . . The next day when Marjorie went to peep at Marie Louise in her corner of the garden, she saw that she had new eyes, beautiful new hair, and lovely blue silk frock. . " Somebody's happy again, laughed daddv that evening. " Did the sweep tell you ?" asked Marjorie, who still thought that " Somebody " was the sweep's cousin. But you, who are older than Marjorie, know better. Don't you ?
