DAIRYING INDUSTRY.

THE OPOURIAO COMPANY. PAST SEASON'S OPERATION!?. GOOD PRICE FOR CHEESE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHAKATANE, Friday. The annual meeting of shareholders of the Opouriao Dairy Company was held at Taneatua. The chairman of directors, Mr. Walter Reid, presided over a good attendance. The balance-sheet for the year ended Juno 30 showed that the company was in a very strong financial position. In presenting the report of the directors, the chairman said that as far as the price of cheese was concerned the company had had a very successful year. Owing, however to the cold and late spring and also to the after effects of heavy and unusual floods experienced last winter, the output decreased by 50 tons, and had it not been for the good autumn the decrease would have been much greater. The sale of the output up to December 31 proved a good bargain for the company. Together with a good local sale, it 'had enabled the company to pay out Is 7£d per lb. butter-fat for tho whole season, from which there were no deductions. The cheese on hand and unsold at the end of the previous se.uson realised £3OO above the valuation placed on it. Although the company was again successful in placing quite a largo amount of cheese upon the Auckland market, it was found that competition was getting a great deal keener every year with the result that the profit was not as great. Nevertheless the company considered it wise to cater for the local trade. When the books were closed for the season just closed the company had about £6OOO worth of cheese unsold, or about a tenth of the output of 735£ tons. The fine quality of cheese made in both the Opouriao and Ruatoki factories was well maintained. Opouriao won the first prize for the province of Auckland, and second prize, with Ruatoki third, for the whole of the Dominion. The Opouriao butter factory won first prize for builter for factories with an output of less than 100 tons.

. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. A dividend of 6 per cent, on the paid-up capital of the company was declared. The retiring directors, Messrs. D. M. Thorn and J. S. Rac, were re-elected, nud Mr. D. R. Revell was reappointed auditor. The question of erecting a new factory at Opouriao was discussed. It was left to the directors to gather information. Subsequently the directors appointed! a committee to inspect other factories, select the most suitable design and report to the shareholders. THE WAIMARI UNDERTAKING. OUTPUT AND PAYMENTS.
