MONEY FROM OPOSSUMS.
MANY PERMITS ISSUED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Monday. The money derived from opossums ha? increased yearly the interest trappers take in securing blocks and licenses, and this •year's licenses issued in Wellington constitute a fresh numerical record. Last year was a record with 269 licenses, but this year the licenses issued to date through the post office total 335, and, in addition to licenses, between fifty and sixty permits to trap on private property have been issued by the secretary of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society.
It is too early yet to forecast the season's take, of which the number of licenses is no indication. Prices ut sales have been good for good quality skins, and as the Wellington season is timed to secure the best fur—July and August, when the weather is coldest—the quality should be ns good as last season.
