KITTY KANGAROO SKATES
Kitty Kangaroo jumped out of bed specially early for it was "still freezing and her skates were lying twinkling on a chair. As you can imagine, she was a wonderful skater with her leaps and bounds. If only she'd been born a human lady, she often said, she'd have made a fortune, at exhibitions, but as she was only a kangaroo she had to jump for fun. " Are you coming, Snippy?" she asked, popping her head in at the door of Snip the snail who was her great going to make figure 9's and 3's, and o's as well as figure B's. Shall I show you how it's done ?" , . . "No, thank you, Kit," said Snippy, u I'd rather slide. I'm so used to it." But he went with her and they had a Perfectly gorgeous; time till the jealous eter Porcupine came along. Do you know what he did ? He put on a card marked " Safe," on a spot which was marked "Dangerous," and then chuckled with glee when he saw Kitty gracefully skate toward it. But he didn't know that Edward Elephant was watching him. Edward was keeper because his trunk was so handy for making rescues. , , One, two, three,"' he said, and, picking Peter up with his trunk, he dumped him into the icy water just where he'd thought Kitty would fall in. Kitty was, saved just in time. 41 Now, what do you think of hiin, Snip ?" she said to her friend the snail. " If only I was as big as a lion," said Snip, " I'd—l'd—" He couldn't finish, because Kitty was laughing so at the idea«of little Snip being as big as a lion, She tucked him in her left ear and took him home for tea.
