RAETIHI AFFAIRS.
SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY. PROTEST AGAINST COMPULSION. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] RAETIHI, Friday. Tlie Raetihi Borough Council met last evening. The Raetihi Tradesmen's Committee asked support for its protest against the proposed amendment to the Shops and Offices Act, making Saturday a compulsory half-holiday. The committee notified that Mr. E. W. Smith, M.P., was also being asked to interest himself in the matter. It was decided to support the protest. The council agreed to the basis of distribution of heavy motor-lorry license fees for the next two years as recommended by the conference held at Wanganui recently. The revaluation of the Ohutu block of native lands has been completed on those lands the leases of which expire this year. The lands are under the Aotea Native Land Board, and are leased for 21 years, with'the right of renewal. A large number of these leases expire in 1927.
