UNPROVOKED ASSAULT.
INCIDENT IN HOTEL BAR. SEVEN DAYS' IMPRISONMENT. An assault in the bar of. the Ambassadors Hotel was denied by Victor Henry Thomas in the Police Court yesterday. Alfred Saunders said he was in the bar when accused, whom he knew by sight as a prominent footballer, struck him in the face. Accused interjected, saying he had also received a blow. Witness: If I had seen you coming you would have got one. Two other witnesses said accused received no provocation. Constable Collins said lie found- Thomas upstairs in the hotel hiding behind a door. The magistrate, Mr: Poynton: It \vas ! a"n unprovoked assault. Accused will be convicted and sentenced to seven days' imprisonment. Subsequently a young woman sought for sureties for the peace against accused. She stated they had been living together and had separated. Accused persisted in annoying her and abusing her in the street. Accused: She got my money. The Magistrate: You have no right to claim it in this Court. She is not your wife. Accused .was ordered to enter into a bond for £SO to keep the peace.
