ALLEGED RACE GANG.
QUESTION TO BANKRUPT. SUGGESTION AND DENIAL. LONDON. June 80. Questions alleging that as the head of the Sabini race gang he made £20,000 to £30,000 a year \Vere put to Charles Darby Sabini during his examination in the Bankruptcy Court. His liabilities total £BIO, and his asset? are stated as nil. He attributed his bankruptcy to an unsuccessful libel action, in which ha attempted to recover damages when , a newspaper alleged that he had robbed bookmakers at the point of a revolver. Counsel suggested that Sabini was the king of the Sabini gang which made fortunes out of bookmakers by selling , them pitches at from £5 to £2O a_ day, and then sending agents to overturn their stands unless they bought his race cards at an extortionate fee. Sabini smiled.
Counsel: You may smile on the other side of your face. Do you deny making £20,000 to £30,000 a year out of the gang ? Sabini: I never knew the gang existed. The examination was concluded.
