DESTRUCTION BY FIRE.
HOMESTEAD BURNED DOWN.
OCCUPANTS SHELTER IN WHARE. [B¥ telegraph.—own correspondent.] GISBORNE. Monday. The ten-roomed homestead at the Tangihau Station, owned by Mr. J. R. Murphy, was destroyed by fire early yesterday morning. A few personal effects were saved. The alarm was given shortly before 4 o'clock, at which time the kitchen was well alight. There was no possibility of preventing the spread of the flames which, in less than an hour, had consumed the whole building. The occupants of the house found shelter until dawn in a nearby whare. The insurance on the house was £ISOO, in tho Northern office.
THE CAMBRIDGE OUTBREAK, CENTRAL HOTEL INSURANCES.' [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CAMBRIDGE, Monday. The Central Hotel, which was gutted by fire on Saturday night was insured for £6OOO, iu two policies of £3OOO, with the United and Royal Insurance Companies respectively.
