BUILDING SECTIONS.
Sir,—Some time back a general meeting of Mount Wellington ratepayers was called to rescind the by-Jaw which provided for quarter-acre sections, and substitute one-fifth of an acre sections. The night of the meeting turned out to ba pouring wet and only 13 ratepayers were present. In spite of that a vote was taken and the fifth of an acre was carried with a bare majority of one. Was that right when the welfare of the whole d istrict . was at stake?" Why - should Mount Wellington district be cut up into smaller sections than Green Lane and Ellerslie, which are nearer the city? Now that we have concrete roads and a good bus service working people will take up land out here. As most people like to have sufficient land for vegetables, flowers, fruit and a few fowls, what room will they have on a fifth of an acre. Also the children have to be considered. This means that they will have to play about the roads if they have no space about their homes. I think it tima the health authorities and the town planners stepped in. I have a large block of land and my intentions are to survey into quarter-acro sections getting a fair profit and leaving a little for the next man. Fifths are all very well for shops and offices, but not for > homes. Why should Mount .Wellington district, with its lovely situation,, glorious views and fertile soil, be destined to become a slum area. ■ - / A Ratepayer.
