SAVE THAT TREE.

Sir,—Permit me to' draw the attention of the civic authorities to the progressiva destruction being wrought on a fine specimen of puriri tree at the corner of Remuera and Bassett Roads. Until recently this tree was on private property, but when the fence was moved for street widening purposes no protection remained, and consequently slow but sure destruction proceeds, mostly on Sundavs, bv children stripping the bark. Surely there is something wrong when a person is liable to prosecution for picking a flower in a public reserve, but can openly cause the destruction of a tree, the beauty of which gives pleasure to all who love nature. Trusting that immediate and adequate protection will be forthcoming. Lover Of Trees.
