The future could be looked forward to with all confidence Expenses would be considerably less, and the true club spirit which had manifested itself during the past season would continue to develop, largely owing to the fact that, following on the severance from the tennis and croquet clubs, the bowling club would shortly hold the title deeds of its own ground. A stcong ' working bee " had been formed and every Saturday 30 members were engaged in digging, laying out a new creen. 112 ft. square, and building a, two-storeyed pavilion.

SOUTH AUCKLAND TOURNEY.

COUNCIL'S PROPOSALS OPPOSED

[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CAMBRIDGE, Monday.

Considerable concern has been created in local bowling circles over the recommendations carried at the meeting of the South Auckland cerjtre council at Hamilton last week. If the proposals are put into effect Cambridge's annual Easter fixture is likely to be jeopardised The tournament, which is the largest country club fixture in the North Island has been held every Easter for the past 21 years, and it is only natural that any movemeit 'ikely to result in injury to it will meet with strcng opposition. The local club fully recognises the importance of the centre tourr ament, but members think the council would be well advised to consider carefully the reasons for the paucity of support for the centre tourney before suggesting such a drastic step as usurping the dates of an affiliated club. It is certain that when the recommendations of the council go before the meeting of centre delegates on September 25 thero will be strong opposition from Cambridge. Other clubs are certain that if the council's proposals are adopted there will be keen disappointment among many bowlers throughout the Auckland Province, who for many years t'ave regularly visited the Cambridge Easter tournament.
