Mondav In the Police Court at Eangiora to-day Oliver James Ball, aged 23, was fined £2O for being in charge of a motor-car while in a state of intoxication. Mr. E; A, Young, S.M., presided. Accused pleaded guilty to two charges, one of being in charge of a motor-car while in a state of intoxication and the other of driving in a manner dangerous to the public. Counsel urged that the magistrate should take into consideration the defendant's youth and certain extenuating circumstances and inflict a fine. The evidence showed that while driving in Victoria Stre*i% Rangiora, on the evening of June 21 defendant collided with a spring cart containing a boy of .13 and a girl of 15 As a result of the collision the children were thrown out on to the road and the harness of the cart was damaged. On the first charge a penalty of £2O was imposed and or; the second charge defendant was ordered to pay costs, 7s. An order for the suppression of defendant's name was refused.
