BOROUGH OF ONEHUNGA.
LIGHTS ON TRAMWAY ROUTE, The Onehunga Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. E. Cowell, presiding. The Auckland City Council wrote requesting that the electric lights in the tramway routes through the borough should be kept on until 1 a.m., the hour the tramway service ceases, instead of being extinguished at midnight. It asked this in the interests of safety, so that the tramway motormen should not be subjected to sudden changes from light to dark. The letter will be referred to the Power Board. Pr. T. J. Hughes, medical officer of health, asked the council to continue its efforts to safeguard public heaith, and to be prepared for any possible introduction of the influenza epidemic to the district. A sub-committee, consisting of the Mayor and Messrs. Green and Stoupe, was "appointed to confer with Dr. Hughes. The Manukau Rovers Football Club is to be granted at a peppercorn rental for 10 veafa the lease of a portion of the Springs Reserve and the Te Papapa Bowling Club a lease of the southern portion of the Allan Springs Reserve for 25 years at £1 a year. The Prime Minister advised that ample legislative power existed to restrict Asiatic immigration, if necessary. ■I • ,
