HANDIWORK OF THE BLIND.
OPENING INSTITUTE SHOP. WIDE VARIETY OF ARTICLES. As part of the result of Auckland's generous contributions to the Blind Institute building fund, a much-needed retai shop has been erected on the Parncll Road frontage cf the institute. The quantity of excellent goods made entirely by the blind in the workshops has been steadily on the increase and it has been found necessary to extend the se !''"B organisation. The shop should materially assist, and there are few people in Auc • land who will not gladly purchase all their requirements in baskets, hammocK > door mats, etc., at this splendid institute. The shop, which has been quaintly built in old English style, will bo opened this morning shortly before nine o rlock by Mrs. H. E. Vaile, wife of the chairman of trustees. Its cost, including tor nishings, has been £IOOO. Messrs. Guminer and Ford have acted as honorary architects. One of the blind women has been appointed saleswoman. Altogether, the building promises to be a most valuable gift to the institute by the people of Auckland#
