OBITUARY.
MRS. ANNIE LEGGETT. Mrs. Annie Leggett, whose death oc* curred in Auckland last week, at the age of 89 years,, was one of the pioneers o! the Waiuku district, where she resided for nearly 60 years. She arrived in Auckland in 18*64 by the ship Reihersteig, and with her husband took up land at Maioro, where she resided until about 10 years ago. Mrs. Leggett then moved to Waiuku and for about the last two years had rosided in Auckland. She leaves two sons and two daughters.
MAJOR C. D. PITT. [fbom our own correspondent.] G-ISBORNE. Monday. The death- occurred - last evening of Major C. D. Pitt, a pioneer of tho. days of the Te Kooti rebellion, in his eightysecond year. Major Pitt's grandfather, in 1847 > was in command of the forces in New Zealand, and' his , father, Colonel Pitt, assisted in the formation of the Ist Waikato Regiment m 1864. As an ensign Major Pitt saw touch service in the Waikato War. Hs arrived in Gisborne in 1870, having been given charge of the Armed Constabulary unit. He left the service in 1874, when the constabulary was converted into a police organisation, and took up farming. Later' he entered commercial life and became a prominent owner of racehorses.
