NGAURUHOE ACTIVE.
CLOUDS OF SMOKE EMITTED. BOULDERS FROM THE CRATER. EXPLOSIONS AND VIBRATIONS. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWX CORRESPONDENT.] WAIMARINO. Saturday. Ngauruhoe provided a wonderful spectacle from Waimarino this afternoon. At 1.50 p.m. enormous clouds of black smoke were seen ascending and large boulders 'were thrown from the crater. The boulders could be seen from Waimarino with the naked eye.and they appeared to be of large dimensions. This activity continued for about two hours. lieports similar to those caused by the firing of a gun were heard intermittently at the Whakapapa huts and simultaneously vibrations were felt. 1 Severe vibrations have been felt at the Tongariro native village during the last few days. A new spectacle fascinated observers of Ngauruhoe after sunset this evening, a rich glow wrapping the crater. As seen from Waimarino the effect was weird, for the brilliance of the reflection fluctuated with rapid changes.
