Difficulties in which the Waihi Borough Council finds itself through the largelyincreased hospital levy if has been called on to pay to the Waihi Hospital Board and the, reduction in the gold duty upon which it has been largely dependent in the past were represented to the Minister of Health, Hon. J. A. Young. The Minister was asked if a special subsidy could be obtained from (he Government, to assist the, council. The Mayor of Waihi, Mr. \ . M. Wulnutt, chairman of the deputation, said the board's expenditure had been increafjd by the fact that patients from the Tauratigit and Thames districts weie i ..en treated in the Waihi Hospital. The council's revenue from gold duty had been heavily reduced, while tho lio:pit-i] levy had increased to £2OOO. Attempts to obtain redress from the Thames and Tauranga Hospital Boards had not succeeded. Tho Minister said he did not hold < ut much hope of the council securing a special subsidy from the Government.
