ANZAC DAY OBSERVANCE.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Thursday. At a meeting of the recently-formed Empire Ex-Service Association, which superseded tho Returned Soldiers' Association in Whangarei, it was decided to accept the mayoral invitation for membors to take part in the Anzac Pay commemoration parade. It was further resolved that the secretary, Mr. H. C. Hemphill, be asked to confer with the town clerk and the defence authorities with a view to the adoption of a proposal that the collection taken up at the services be handed over to tho association to administer in relief of returned soldiers and their dependants. Returned nurses art to be asked to place the association's wreath on tho step of the memorial. The fourteenth annual nieeting of the Whangarei Sheep Dog Trial Club began this morning. The weather conditions were excellent and the first event, a Short head and drive, drew 48 entries. Ihe contest was not completed when the meet ing was adjourned this evening.
