The Governor-General and Lady Alice Fergusson, who are paying their first official visit to Palmerston North, arrived We on Saturday evening. They attended service at the Presbyterian Church yesterday morning, and this morning taken on a tour of the borough by the Mayor, Mr. J. F. Nathan. Following a busy morning visiting the Old People's Home, the West End primary school and the hospital, Sir Charles 3nd Lady Fergusson were guests of the Rotary Club at lunch. In returning thanks for the invitation, Sir Charles Fergusson said that among Rotarians he found the same apirit of fellowship, 'all working for the same end. Lord Jellicoe had told him if he wanted any help in his duties to go to Rotary. That was a fine thing to say. snd he had taken his predecessor's advice. Subsequently, Sir Charles and Lady Alice Fergusson were accorded a civic reception in the Square, which was beflagged for the occasion. Hundreds of people early secured all vantage points. In his reply, Sir Charles Fergusson said he •coked upon Palmerstoa as the culminating point of his tour of New Zealand. Be spoke of the loyalty everywhere manifested by the New Zealanders, and of the wonderful energy and initiative of the pioneers, The Scottish Society tendered a welcome And an address to the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides followed. Two officers, Major S. Jickell and Lieutenant J. T. Slipper, were decorated in recognition of 20 years' commissioned service. Sir Charles and Lady Alice Fergusson w?ere later the guests of the Mayor and Mrs. Nathan, Sir Charles attended 9 Masonic function in tho-evening.
