' The organisation of a wheat pool, comprising representatives of the " United fetiites; Canada and Australia, was effected tit" tho'opening meeting of the Wheat Confcrenc'o ■at - St- Paul, Minnesota. Mr. Coleman Burnell, president of the Manitoba" pool," ivas elected chairman of the conference. Mr. 0. J. Scott, secretary of this North Dakota pool, acted as secretary.' Ft was announced that the following topics would bo .taken Tip immediately flho organisation, administration, and physical handling of the wheat crop; a selling policy; retirement of reserves and International co-ordination. Mr. J. M.' McDonald, the Australian delegate, was tho principal speaker at the bpen.ing session. During the War, he faid,, because of Australia's distance, from the English markets, and owing to the Submarines warfare which endangered fehipsj. Australia could not sl ip wheat outfiido the country. A plan v?as finally formulated to handle wheat and store it for future sale. After the ' war tho reorganisation of bdohi on a voluntary basis was authorised by tho Federal Government and was adopted successfully. In an interview Mr. McDonald said he Would urge .the establishmentof an organisation similar to that of Canada for the Australian growers. The. success of the Canadian poohi last year in bringing up the prico of wheat 30 cents a bushel before the entire crop had been marketed had not only benefited the growers in Canada, but had led to higher prices..- foir tho, Australian crop. - Mr. McDonald said the United States and Australia, must perfect their organisations and emulate - Canada.
