GRANT FOR SPORTS GROUND.

MR. BALDWIN AND CRITICS. A. arid N.Z. LONDON. Feb. 16. It was announced in thi: House of Commons that the Government proposed to grant £200,000 toward this cost of a sports ground for the' members of the Civil Service.

Several members protested that this was an unnecessary expense when national economy was important.

Tl}e Prime Minister, Mr. Stanley Baldwin, in a spirited defence of. the grant, said every large employer of labour had provided similar facilities for the recreation of his employees. The State So far had provided no such consideration for its 300,000 employees.
